SOFTBALL FOR GIRLS:
Girls may play
in the Baseball program, but most prefer
to play softball with their peers. Baseball Girls
Softball offers the same competitive learning
experience for young ladies as does Baseball
for boys, and for the girls who prefer baseball.
Common fund-raising efforts, shared facilities,
and a single administrative organization for
both boys and girls makes sense at the community
level. Affiliation with a single national organization
makes integration of the boys and girls programs
at the community level far easier.
The Growing Baseball Girls Softball program offers
tournament competition for girls, but emphasizes
league play within the community to provide
playing opportunity for all of the girls who
are interested in the game. Softball leagues
are identified by the same league names for
various age levels as baseball, Shetland, Pinto,
Mustang, Bronco, Baseball, Colt and Palomino. To
allow more flexibility at the community level,
various age groups may be combined to meet the
needs of a particular community. Bronco League
Softball, for example, is for players 12-and-under,
and where numbers are insufficient, players
from several ages may be combined in a single
league. The same is true of leagues for older
players.
Baseball provides rules and tournament play for
both Fast Pitch and Slow Pitch girls softball,
and as in baseball, diamond sizes are tailored
to the physical ability of the players.
